Spoil your footsies April 6, 2011

Having been raised in Australia, I was bound to the culture of thongs (flip flops, not g strings;P) the beach and fish n chips. When I was young I had a problem with my feet I always sprained my ankle when walking so I needed those foot padding things that go in shoes and I hated it, so from a very young age I would wear thongs or open toed shoes, after 10 or so years, when I would need to wear closed shoes my toes would just ache with pain they would get red and so irritated so I would dread when I would need to wear anything closed for sports or long walks up hills etc.

Nicole Richie looking cute as in her converse shoes

Anyway long story short it’s been 25 years since I have purchased a pair of sneakers voluntarily  but because it was getting harder and harder for me to wear anything but thongs I decided to invest in a pair of converse shoes and this is something I recommend for everyone!! They are so freakin comfortable! Even though they are slightly pricey, I feel like they are a perfect alternative for people who have the same problem as me. It’s also a great look celebrities can pull off and look effortlessly chic and cute, don’t hate me but it seriously peeves me when socialites and celebrities like Kim K wear nothing but Christian Louboutin’s, (we get it you’re rich, snob).

I tend to pair them with jeans /shorts and a casual t shirt but I am sure there are many other ways to wear them, ( I don’t think I can pull off a pair of Chuck Taylor’s with a dress like M. Cyrus!) and since I’m new to wearing sneakers if any of you fashionistas have any other suggestions on how to wear them let me know that’d be great!

Nudes all the rage March 9, 2011

So I’ve wanted to blog about this since I got back from Australia but there was always something else on my mind. While I was back home, I noticed an overwhelming fashion trend and that is everything nude, for those who don’t know what I mean I am referring to really sweet soft romantic tones from white beige and soft pinks, from day wear to night time attire, from shoes to bags and everything in between.

One reason why I believe it was such an overwhelmingly beautiful trend in Australia is because of a store called Forever New, you can say that all the “IT” girls shop at, as their style is up to date, shabby chic and sexy without going over the top. Mind you, forever new only opened it’s doors in 2006 in Melbourne and now operates more than 100 stores internationally, so that may be why this trend hasn’t hit Kuwait yet, or if it ever will, but this trend is one that I am just crazy about. When I went back home I actually did 70% of my shopping there!

I did notice this trend in Hollywood over the awards season, Sandra Bullock, Scarlett Jo Hanson and Hally Steinfeld just to name a few were embracing this romantic trend and I feel it just makes a woman look so classy and effortless!

On NYE I went to a party thrown by Fashion TV and the theme was “A White Party” so everyone had to dress in light breezy colors and ofcourse the guys would either go all out and wear white from head to toe or do what many guys did and wear jeans with a white shirt white shoes and a funky little hat to top off the outfit (I must say he did me proud that night, looking smashing!) I got a dress from Forever New and gorgeous pink/beige pumps for the night which I am in love with. Everyone looked amazing that night, it was a sea of white and really allowed that fashion to come alive. I really hope that this trend comes to Kuwait hopefully over the summer, it is simply too cute a trend to miss out on!

What’s happening to the world!! March 5, 2011

Hollywood's latest insane idea

I think reality TV has hit an all time low!! A couple of days ago a show called “BridalPlasty”aired on E! Basically, what it is, is a group of engaged chicks competing for the chance to win their dream wedding and all the surgeries they want, lipo, botox, boob jobs etc etc. I mean ok, I understand that people behind the scenes have ratings to reach so they can make a few more millions but really, what does a show like this tell us about what’s to come in the future, what our kids will be watching and talking about and the really sad thing is, we are becoming so desensitized to this rubbish, it’s just accepted in our society.

Undoubtedly,in this day and age reality TV has completely taken over, from American Idol, dancing with the stars, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Jersey Shore & Big Brother (the ”mother”) of all reality television, and we are completely hooked, so what can be said about the quality of what airs on TV and is there really anything good on anymore? Thankfully, there are some kick ASS shows on the box like breaking bad, lie to me, big bang theory, community, how I met your mother, two and a half men, and glee, fingers crossed these shows air for a long time coming.

Anyway, even though I am slamming trashy reality TV, I, in no way am denying that I enjoy and look forward to seeing everyday people venturing into insane projects and wicked arguments. Hey, everyone needs a break from “our” reality;)

My valentine February 14, 2011

Sooo today is V day and I am one of the lucky ones to be spending it with my special man, my gorgeous husband. I, being new to Kuwait and “currently unemployed” was home this morning while he works; I got a call from him at 9:15am telling me I need to be ready in 20 so I rushed did my hair threw on the first thing I found slapped on some make up and rushed out the door. I pressed the elevator button and remembered my coat inside so I rushed in grabbed it and waited for the elevator door to open up and when it did my hubby was standing there with a huge bunch of pink roses (my fav) I almost had a heart attack! So we went out to breakfast (amazing view on the beach) and then came back home. That’s it for now but I will keep you updated on the rest of the day!

Happy v day for those celebrating it with your special partner or with great friends and family!

Ok so I had a thing to do at 8 till 9, on the way home my hubby called and said to hurry up coz we had to go for dinner so when I unlocked the door, I walked in to dim lights and candles everywhere around our apartment with romantic music playing in the background it was amazing. He had ordered Italian food from one of my fav Italian restaurants and we sat down to a candlelit dinner then danced a bit, had some dessert danced a bit more exchanged gifts and just had a sensational evening with my man.

I hope you all had a wonderful valentines day also!

Never take life for granted February 10, 2011

Before I log off, there is an incredibly touching story I saw on the American Idol auditions that bought me to tears so much so that I woke up my poor husband at 2am. Ill let you all watch the video without any introductions but I only ask you for one thing. For those who have facebook, if you could just type in your search bar “FOR JULIANA” it will take you to the page this girl’s family created for her and just leave a kind word for the family, Juli and her incredible fiance Chris. A sweet word can go a long way in giving people the will to carry on.

Thanks guys I really appreciate it.

I’m back!

Hi all!

I apologise for being MIA I’ve been away (back home) in Australia and was wayyy too busy to blog, (with two nieces under two my babysitting responsibilities were put to full use)! So today I must just take a minute and talk about the situation in Egypt. As an arab, I feel so proud and so happy seeing fellow arabs fighting for democracy which is so amazing; I truly which I could be there fighting along side them for something that arabs and everybody around the world always seeks, and that is a better way of life. Bless you all and keep on fighting.

I have sooo many fashion finds and other things I have seen I want to talk about but it’s late now and I am kind of glued to CNN, so stay posted I will be back full throttle!! Till then, have a good night and stay safe!

AU vs KW. What do U think? December 9, 2010

Hi all!

Sorry it’s been a while I’ve been insanely busy I just arrived in Australia for a family visit! It’s December now which means summer, but I am NOT impressed with the weather:( It’s a nice cool breeze which most people love but I’m here for the gorgeous beaches and lazy days at the park, booo! Anyway, I’m here for another 5 weeks so hopefully summer will arrive soon.

Now for all those who have been or live in Kuwait, may agree with me when I say the ladies can be really over the top when it comes to fashion, but they do keep up with the latest trends, but having been here in Australia, I’ve noticed that people aren’t really up to date, it’s not that there aren’t amazzzing fashion musts available, but I think the overly relaxed atmosphere that comes with being in Australia over shadows the fact that sometimes, putting in a little bit of effort can really go a long way in lifting a persons spirit. I’am talking about the girls fashion sense more than the guys, since guys here are always in board shorts and surfer t shirts which looks neat and cool, but some of the girls I see at the shops are wearing these overly tight short shorts and extremely low cut blouses with this hideous  hairstyle I call the “skunk look”. They dye their hair black and then a huge streak of blonde just underneath, it looks disastrous!

Having lived in both countries, I can see why Kuwait and Australia are different when it comes to style, and don’t get me wrong, I am not a fan of either, but I think the fact that girls in AU don’t bother putting in effort when they go shopping (they go all out for clubbing tho!!) is because here, there are taxes, 9 to 5 jobs, uni, life is generally a bit more difficult and there are no maids to go out to do their grocery shopping so life is busy and more stressful, a vast difference to the lifestyle most have in Kuwait.

I really love the laid back feeling of OZ, but sometimes I wish girls could put a little more effort to look good because it will lift their spirit even if they don’t think so, and Australia has some incredible bargains! So there is no excuse about cost, and I do wish that some girls could take it down a notch in Kuwait and not dress like their going to a party at 10am.
